Parent Visa (Contributory Parent, Permanent)

The 143 visa allows parents of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently.

At least half of the applicant’s children must live in Australia or the applicant must have more children living in Australia than in any other country.

Sponsor

• 18 years old or older
• A settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

Balance of Family Test

• At least half of your children live permanently in Australia, or
• More of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other country

You do not have to meet the BoFT if you hold a Subclass 173 Temporary Contributory Parent Visa or your subclass 173 ended in the 28 days immediately before you apply.

Family

You can include in your visa application:

• Your partner
• Your or your partner’s child or step-child

You must meet health and character requirements.

Pay the first instalment for the 143 visa when you apply.

• Hold a Subclass 173 (or substituted 600): Main AUD 340 / Additional 18+ AUD 170 / Additional under 18 AUD 85
• Subclass 173 ended >28 days ago but compassionate reasons apply: Main AUD 2,470 / Additional 18+ AUD 1,235 / Additional under 18 AUD 620
• All other applicants: Main AUD 3,855 / Additional 18+ AUD 1,300 / Additional under 18 AUD 650

Pay the second instalment for the 143 visa when we ask you to.

• Applying as a dependent child of a 173 holder, under 18 at 173 application time: AUD Nil
• Substituted 600 visa scenario, child under 18: AUD Nil
• Dependent child, under 18 at this application: AUD 2,095
• Previously held 173, compassionate circumstances: AUD 17,545
• Currently hold 173 / 173 ended in last 28 days / substituted 600: AUD 19,420
• All other applicants: AUD 43,600
